Biography Person's Name: Sitaram Yechury
Introductory Information.
Sitaram Yechury was born on 12 August 1952 and raised in a Hindu family in Madras, southern india.He is a political leader of Communist party of India, who currently serves as the General Secretary since 19 April 2015. He is also a member of the Polit bureau of the communist party of India.
Early Life:
Talking about his early life, he was raised by Somayajula Yechury ,father of a family in Andhra Pradesh state, who works at State road Transport corporation,his mother Kalpakam Yechury is a government servant. He had spent early years of education at All Saints High School,Hyderabad. The following year,with the agitation of Telangana issue he was taken to Delhi to further continue his studies.
Then, he excelled through his studies .After earning a B.A(Hons) in Economics from St. Stephen's college,Delhi,he attended Jawaharlal Nehru University’s graduate M.A in Economics.
However, he was summoned back to Jawaharlal Nehru university for a PhD in Electronics until he was arrested for “the emergency”.After that, he joined Students Federation of India(SFI) in 1974. A year later, he became a Marxist.

Joining Students federation of India (SFI) then CPI(M)
After joining Phd in JNU,he was arrested because of “the emergency”during this period of study.
Later,he joined the student’s union thrice through 1977-78.
The SFI nominated him as All-India Joint Secretary and president in 1978.
In 1986 he left for SFI. This resulted in a referendum for politburo at foundation congress in 1992, as fifth general secretary for CPI(M).
He partnered with P. Chidambaram drafted the Popular Minimum Program for the Government of the United Front in 1996 and vigorously followed the process of coalition building during the establishment of the Government of the United Progressive Alliance in 2004.
A prolific writer, he has written several books and writes for the Hindustan Times.For the last 20 years he has been the editor of the People's Democracy newspaper.
Role in Rajya sabha
In July 2005 Yechury was elected from West Bengal to Rajya Sabha.
He is known to bring in demand to parliament's attention and raise concerns about the ruling party for frequent parliamentary disturbances.
During the negotiations for the Indo-US Nuclear Pact, Yechury stated all the conditions the CPM demanded of the agreement in the Rajya Sabha.
During the parliamentary session on 3 March 2015, Yechury moved an amendment to the address given by President Pranab Mukherjee on the inaugural day of the Parliament's budget session, which was passed by the vote division in Rajya Sabha, which gave the Modi government enormous embarrassment.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Venkiah Naidu announced that Yechury's concern was noted and told him not to go ahead with the amendment as this was not a convention. Even after 14 hours of discussion, opposition had been denied the opportunity to seek clarity on the response of the Prime Minister.
Personal life and public image:
Yechury marries journalist Seema Chisti, BBC Hindi Service's former Delhi editor. She is currently Indian Express's Resident Editor, Delhi. He was married before, to Vina Mazumdar's daughter and has a daughter and a son from this marriage. His daughter, Akhila Yechury, is a major in history and teaches at the University of Edinburgh and University of St. Andrews.Mohan Kanda IAS, former Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, is Yechury's maternal uncle.
